What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the process of recognising that the student may be competent in an area of study or subject, regardless of how, when or where their learning occurred.

It is defined by the VET Quality Framework as “an assessment process that assesses an individual’s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a VET qualification.”

A candidate’s RPL application should be based on their ability to demonstrate levels of skill and knowledge detailed in each unit of competency applied for. They must also be able to apply these skills and knowledge practically.

Key Benefits of RPL

It allows your previous work experience, knowledge and skills to be formally recognised and usually at less cost.

You do not have to undergo repeat training in areas that you are already been learned or competent in.

Increases your career and education options through recognising skills and knowledge.

Identify any gaps in your skills and knowledge and highlights any learning that needs to occur to meet the requirements of the job role or qualification.

Allows for fairer access to studies that you wish to undertake by enabling people without prerequisites qualifications to enter the VET system at a level commensurate with their skills and knowledge.

How does this process works?

1. Free Skill Assessment

Free skill assessment helps you to identify the right qualification that matches your skills and show you what needs to be done to achieve the qualification.

3. COMPETENCY CONVERSATION

Once the assessor has reviewed the evidence you supplied, they will contact you for competency conversation, this may include practical observation if required. They will assign a trainer to upskill you if there are gaps in skills and knowledge against the whole qualification.

2. EVIDENCE

Provide as much information about your skills, experiences and previous training as possible. The evidence could include employment references, resume, testimonials, performance portfolio, photo/videos, certificate/transcripts of the previous qualifications.

4. QUALIFIED

You will receive nationally recognised qualification certificates from our partner college, which you can use to claim promotion, obtaining licences or for immigration purpose.
